Summer Holiday Finishes…

Like many others, my summer holiday is coming to an end and thoughts of the new term ahead become inevitable. But – we still have at least a few days left so how can teachers best prepare. Here are some thoughts:

1. Do something that brings you joy over the weekend – you may as well end the holidays on a high!

2. Get outside (weather permitting) – go for a walk, bike ride or other physical activity and remind yourself of how this rejuvenates the soul (log in your memory for half way through the Autumn term!)

3. Ease yourself gently back in to a routine – get your body used to sleeping and waking a bit earlier so it’s not such a shock when term starts!

4. Prepare but don’t overdo it – accept that you probably won’t get round to creating your fantastic vision of a 3D rainforest canopy in the corner of the classroom, complete with hanging vines, life-sized papier-mâché animals, sound effects of tropical birds, and a hidden treasure chest.

5. Remember – the first week is about making connections with the children, not stressing about achieving perfection.

Enjoy the last few days of rest and I wish you the very best start to the new term.
