Corinne Martinez, Director of Acumist Education Limited, is a qualified teacher with over twenty years of leadership experience. She has always been passionate in her quest that every child deserves the best and as adults we must do everything possible to ensure that children have the support and opportunities to thrive. As a Headteacher, she took a school from a category of ‘Special Measures’ to ‘Good’ in only seventeen months and then subsequently achieved ‘Outstanding’ in Personal Development, Behaviour and Welfare. Fundamental to this success was the creation of a safe, supportive culture where pupil voice mattered and individual needs were met. Pupil progress and achievement significantly improved under her leadership, and the school consistently achieved above the national average in Reading, Writing and Maths

Corinne has an extensive working knowledge of trauma informed practice and has trained whole staff teams, leaders and individuals in trauma awareness; creating whole school policies, procedures and practices that realise the impact of trauma, recognise signs of possible traumatic experiences and ensure consistent, positive and restorative responses to behaviour that actively seek to avoid re-traumatisation.

With more than a third of pupils experiencing at least one traumatic event before the age of eighteen, it is vital that all adults working with children have an understanding of the nature and impact of trauma and are equipped with the skills and knowledge to support every child to thrive. Furthermore, a trauma informed approach does not only benefit pupils who we know have experienced trauma but positively impacts on all relationships and can significantly improve outcomes across the organisation.

Corinne is now committed to providing independent, impartial and flexible support to build on existing structures and provide the tools needed to implement trauma informed practice across whole schools and organisations.
