We’re in the final weeks before the Christmas break — a period that can feel exciting for some young people, but for many, it’s a time when anxiety, overwhelm and emotional fatigue can start to surface.
Changes to routine, sensory overload, social expectations and end-of-term pressures can make this time particularly challenging for pupils who already struggle with regulation, confidence or school-based anxiety.
In my coaching and mentoring work, the focus at this point in the term is on:
*Reducing pressure and increasing predictability
*Supporting emotional regulation through calm, structured sessions
*Strengthening confidence and resilience
*Providing a safe space to process worries or transitions
*Using a trauma-informed, child-led approach to reduce fear and overwhelm
My role is to help young people feel grounded, understood and in control — especially when the environment around them becomes louder, busier or harder to navigate.
As the term draws to a close, many children need connection, not correction; gentle support, not heightened expectations.
