Disability Week 17th -23rd June

The theme this year is, “Do you see me?” and tomorrow’s topic particularly resonates with me: “Do you hear me?”

Currently I am working with a number of children who want to be in school but are struggling to get over the threshold. The reason? They just don’t have the relationships with adults in school that enable them to feel safe and listened to. Instead it seems that too many schools are still following a set culture and policy with no room for flexibility to accommodate students’ individual needs.

Ask the right questions, listen to the answers and crucially, be prepared to try new strategies. This will help young people feel listened to and lead to the positive change we’re all aiming for.

I feels so passionately about this that I provide coaching for young people to support and empower them to manage their situations and ensure they are heard.
