National Hug Day

Sunday marks National Hug Day. What a fantastic excuse to give all those you love, an even bigger hug than usual.

This national day has made me think again about so many children in care who miss out on the physical attention that we all need as humans. Did you know that cuddling releases oxytocin which can slow down heart rate and reduce stress and anxiety levels? This is why scientists often call it ‘the cuddle hormone’.

It makes me so sad when schools have a ‘no touch’ policy. Luckily I think most schools have now realised the detrimental effect this can have on children.

Let’s all make sure that over the coming week, we give every child a hug who needs it! (Gaining permission first, of course!)
