When considering content for my blog this week, I came across this day, marking the arrival of British ships in 1788. I know it seems wrong, but my thoughts went to Rolf Harris and the victims of his abusive behaviour.
It is estimated that around half a million children suffer abuse each year in the UK. Many are too scared, ashamed or unaware that it’s abuse, to speak out. It shows just how important it is that adults around our young people are vigilant, curious and provide the safe environment needed to express their thoughts and feelings.
In addition, I still see adults focusing on the challenging behaviour itself rather than asking themselves what is behind the behaviour.
A curious, questioning adult can be the lifeline for our children.
