As most staff in schools will know, and many will be still trying to clean off the face paint etc, today is World Book Day. This week, I have been visiting children in care who do not attend school. This is due either to feeling that school ‘doesn’t suit’ them or they have been permanently excluded. They miss out on these special days that bring the school together and nurtures a sense of belonging. They also miss out on much of the joy of books by either having on-line tutoring or for many, no learning at all. We still have so much to do to ensure our schools are inclusive for everyone.
