This week is a big deal for some of our young people starting university, many leaving home for the first time and navigating life away from the safety and security home brings.
I remember the excitement of a new stage in life, with my belongings all stuffed in my tiny old mini, looking forward to independence.
However, let’s not forget this is also a time of trepidation, worry of the unknown and dare I say it, just a little anxiety.
How can we be sure, as parents, we have adequately prepared our children for this big step to independence?
The truth is we can’t but they know where we are when they need us.
However, this is also a time for signposting our grown up children, to seek the support they need for themselves. That is a real testament to how independent they really are!
